Bar Harbor - May 2003

With the stress of 2002 and early 2003 behind us, we decided to celebrate our lives getting back to "normal" with a Memorial Day Weekend getaway to Maine.  Even though it is far and early in the season, Tamara always wanted to go to Bar Harbor so we planned to stay at a B&B in downtown Bar Harbor.  Of course, the weather didn't cooperate and it was very cold but we still enjoyed our weekend and had an entirely new type of vacation.  Now we can't wait to add more stamps to our National Park Passport by taking in the beauty that lies nearby in our great nation.

After a delightful breakfast on Saturday morning, we left to explore Acadia National Park.  We toured the park by car, following the audio tour, although it was too cold, rainy, and windy to spend much time outside at each of the stops.  In the afternoon, we shopped in town and spent a lot of time (and money) at our favorite store, Cool as a Moose.   That night, we met Tamara's Aunt and Uncle for a fabulous dinner.

On Sunday, the skies cleared a little and we went hiking (Gruber-style) in Acadia National Park, until the rains came again.  The views from the hilltop were exceptional and we enjoyed hiking by streams and taking in the beauty of the park's architecture.

After working up an appetite, we went to the B&B recommended Thurston's Lobster Pound.  Tamara was a little hesitant about eating the lobster she just picked from the tank but quickly got over it.  As you can see, Glenn had no such reservations.  Glenn taught Tamara the art of eating lobster and we both enjoyed some of the freshest, sweetest, tastiest lobster ever in the perfect seaside atmosphere.

On Monday, we took a long drive home along the coast, stopping in Camden to enjoy the view and lunch in Boothbay Harbor.  The closer we got to home, the harder it rained.  But at least the weekend wasn't a total washout!
